Lidl plans to open more than 90 new south London stores including Bromley and Bickley - News Shopper

The discount store, now the third largest supermarket in London, has published a list of more than 100 locations for potential new branches in London, with dozens in the south east - such as Orpington, Forest Hill, and two in Lewisham.

Across the UK, Lidl plans to open hundreds of new outlets, including in Bristol, Birmingham, and Berwick.

In London, new stores will also be opening in Wandsworth, Fulham, Hoxton, and Canning Town.

Sydenham priest James Murphy jailed for historic sex abuse - News Shopper

Father James Finbar Murphy – who held posts at churches in Sydenham, New Addington, South Croydon and Streatham – abused boys as young as five years old.

In 2000 he was jailed for 30 months after he admitted abusing seven boys in south London - though the case’s investigating officer said this could be “just the tip of the iceberg”.

More victims then came forwards and Murphy, now aged 77, was convicted of seven counts of abuse against four more boys.

With the London Marathon set to take place this Sunday (April 21), plenty of people will be flocking to London in support of the major sporting event.

This weekend Thameslink is set to conduct planned engineering works affecting travel between some central London stations and Finsbury Park, affecting some services running to and from London.

Engineering works at Southeastern train stations this Easter - News Shopper

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, running from March 29 until April 1, Southeastern customers are being urged to check before travelling, as buses are set to replace trains across parts of the railway network in south London as well as Kent and Sussex.

The works, carried out by Network Rail, are part of a major upgrade scheme as part of a wider £89 million programme.

Last Friday (March 15), The Sunday Times' expert panel unveiled London's 'Best Places to Live,' with Forest Hill crowned one of the winners, along with Crouch End, Little Venice, London Fields, Wimbledon Village, and the highest rated place to live in London, Clerkenwell.

As soon as I saw that Forest Hill had been crowned one of the top places, I couldn't resist the temptation to experience its renowned charm first hand.

Armed with a sense of adventure and a healthy dose of scepticism (because really, how amazing could it be?), I embarked on a day of exploration.

Among those jailed were six men who were convicted of the murder of Michael Jonas in Penge and two men who were found guilty of murdering Charlie Bartolo and Kearne Solanke in Abbey Wood.

Meanwhile, a truck driver was jailed after he crashed into a bus stop in Blackheath and killed 14-year-old Logan Finch.

And in other news, a mum from Erith was jailed after she tried to cover up an XL Bully attack.
