Ice-hockey: Streatham take on Solent Devils in NIHL 1 South play-off semi-final - South London News
Description

Streatham face Solent Devils in the NIHL 1 South play-off semi-finals at Alexandra Palace tomorrow (1.30pm), writes Christopher Beal.

The South Londoners booked their spot with a 14-0 thrashing of Milton Keynes Thunder on Sunday.

Streatham were 7-0 ahead at the end of the first period with Luke Brittle (two), Ben Ealey-Newman, Jared Lane, Ziggy Beesley,Ryan Watt and Josh Martin netting goals.

The hosts were 12-0 in front after the next period with Brandon Miles, Lane, Ryan Watt and Ealey-Newman on target.

Streatham added two more in the final period through Brittle and JJ Pitchley.

Captain Beesley said: “We got into good habits and got goals behind us heading into the semi-finals at Alexandra Palace.

“You don’t want to underestimate any team, especially with how the results have gone this season.

“But if we turn up and play the way we know we can we’ll get a result.”

Head coach Ben Paynter added: “We’re looking forward to playing Solent, they’re not our favourite team. The fans don’t like each other and the teams and players don’t like each other. So for us to get another opportunity against them is good.

“But we don’t worry about who we’re playing, we adapt our game plan and take it one game at a time.”

If Streatham see off Devils then the final against either Slough or Chelmsford takes place on Sunday.
