Robert Torto, 44, was getting his hair cut when his Trotts and Son's penny farthing was stolen from a bike rack in Streatham Hill at around 1pm on June 3. CCTV footage from a nearby pharmacy captured the suspected thief wheeling the penny farthing away from the scene. David Hanson, 44, who had 105 previous convictions including 33 burglaries, was caught in the act and arrested by two detectives from a private policing company. The store manager from M&S in Streatham Hill had called police immediately after catching Hanson stealing on CCTV but despite the footage, the Met Police decided not to investigate. Labour-run Lambeth Council has suspended the Streatham Wells LTN in London which has caused traffic nightmares since being introduced in October last year. The A23, which runs along the western side of the LTN and is one of the main routes out of London into Surrey, was constantly gridlocked. The London Mayor revealed today that his team had been in touch with Lambeth council to try and resolve the issues being created by the Streatham Wells LTN, which has seen buses travelling as slowly as 1.5mph. The Labour politician, who is seeking re-election in May, told LBC: 'It's not working and we've asked the council to look at it urgently.' Mayara Loiola Ataide, 34 and Gevaldo Tavares Dos Santos, 46 both of no fixed address, were charged this morning. They were also charged with two counts of arson with intent to endanger life. Both will appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates' Court later today. The blaze broke out at a multi-occupancy house on Glenister Park Road in Streatham at 7.07pm on Sunday, 25 February.
