Streatham Space Project

Streatham Space Project is a Theatre, Music, Art, Dance & Comedy venue in Zone 3, south London run by a registered charity Thinktank Theatre.

Opened in 2018, the Streatham Space Project is a new 120-seat theatre and arts centre in south London. Delivered through a Section 106 Agreement as part of London Square’s mixed-use Streatham Hill development, the project is designed by David Hughes of MDR Associates.

The building is on a single level and encloses a total floor area of 500 square metres, including a 140 square metre theatre box, set apart from the residential accommodation above. With a capacity of 120 seats, the auditorium is fully flexible, with a variety of seating and staging configurations. The building also contains rehearsal and multi-use spaces, a cafe bar, dressing rooms and an office.

When the Gaumont ciné-variety theatre in Streatham was demolished, a new theatre was proposed as part of a Section 106 agreement within a mixed-use development in a dense residential area in Streatham. Streatham once held many large-scale performance venues and the opportunity was identified by the London Borough of Lambeth to turn the required community space into a theatre.
