Natalie is the founding member and creator of one of the UK’s most successful and unique musical acts, Grammy nominated, multi-platinum selling Neo Soul sensation, Floetry. The internationally renowned poet has collaborated with legendary artists such as Prince, Earth Wind & Fire, Mos Def and Common, in a career that encompasses spoken word, performance poetry and songwriting. The Floacist: ‘I grew up in South London and as a teenager I attended many an all-dayer and Lambeth Country show in my youth. I have very fond memories of hot days walking with my friends through Brockwell Park. So, after touring the world and enjoying many amazing live performances throughout my career, playing the mainstage at The Lambeth Country show will be a joy! A full circle moment in many ways! It will be lovely to see the many children in my family have a chance to witness Aunty Nat on the stage!’ The Floacist has also supported Lambeth poet laureate, Abstract Benna who is an original member of The FLO Poet collective and one of the many UK Poets that she has mentored over the years. Benna performed at the very first FLO Vortex event in 2014 and was also a part of the WORD MUSIC: Poetry In Motion FLO Vortex project in 2018. This project included weekend retreats at her home studio in Hastings, where poets had the chance to expand their experience working with music. Flo Vortex currently hosts a monthly spoken word evening at the CLF Art Lounge & Roof Garden in Peckham. The Floacist: ‘As with many of the FLO Poets, Benna has gone on to make me very proud, especially as he became Lambeth poet laureate. I encourage poets to blaze their own trail and to prepare for success, through mentorship, education programmes and many other community outreach projects that I self-fund and organise through FLO Vortex. Part of my decision to spend more time at home in the UK was to be sure that I gave myself the opportunity to support the community that I came from with the range of experience and success that I have achieved in my career.’ Omar headlines the mainstage on Saturday, and other artists include LoKkhi TeRra featuring Dele Sosimi, Dutty Moonshine Big Band and Tanhai Collective.
