Full Schedule & Prices

Our Black Boy Magic

Sunday, 8th October 2023 11am – 1pm Free

A free interactive storytelling event for children aged 4 to 6, where each story told becomes a vehicle for personal growth. Children will discover the strength of their own thoughts and words, as they embrace affirmations that nurture self-confidence and resilience. In a world where children are expected to “be seen and not heard”, it is crucial to empower our children to stand up for themselves through self-love.

Can I Live?

Monday, 9th October 2023 7.30pm – 10pm £6

Can I Live? is a vital new digital performance about the climate catastrophe. Weaving his story with spoken word, rap, theatre, animation and the scientific facts, performer Fehinti Balogun charts a course through the fundamental issues underpinning the emergency, and shares how, as a young Black British man, he has found his place in the climate movement. Can I Live? Is a Complicité production funded by Arts Council England, Doc Society Climate Story Fund and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

Changing the Narrative

Tuesday, 10 October 2023 7pm – 10.30pm £5

Curated by Shogun Shato, Changing the Narrative is a photography exhibition coupled with spoken word performances from some of the best wordsmiths London has to offer. Inspired by Civil Rights activist John Lewis’s work in the Black suffrage movement, the exhibition aims to subvert preconceived notions of Blackness by showcasing Black people in spaces or activities that they are not “supposed” or “allowed” to inhabit or partake in.

Line up to be announced.

Black On Stage: A new performance method

Thursday 12 October 2023 7.30pm – 10pm £10

Too often the ways we tell our stories are Eurocentric. But what if we could perform and tell our stories in ways more attuned to African and Caribbean histories? What if our theatre looked, felt and sounded completely different? Join writer/director Ayanna Blair-Ford as she walks us through the research and development of her new performance method utilising extracts from her debut play-in-progress, Black On Stage: Crick – Crack.

Letter to a Black Girl: Getting in “Good Trouble”

Friday, 13 October 2023 7.30pm – 10pm £15 (Early Bird), £20 (Standard)

As heard on BBC History for the BBC 100 celebrations, Letter To A Black Girl comes to Streatham Space Project for a live podcast recording! Podcast founder and host, actress Gloria Onitiri will be joined by guests Dr Yvonne Thompson CBE, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, Dawn Estefan; multidisciplinary artist and cultural curator, Danny Bailey; and founder of Eleven Eleven Wellbeing, Louise Mensah. In traditional Letter To A Black Girl style, they will bring their letters to their younger selves and roundtable about what it really means to get in ‘good trouble’.
