Streatham Wells Primary School rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted - This is Local London
Description

Streatham Wells Primary School, based in Palace Road, was most recently inspected on January 30 and 31, 2024, and the report was published on March 15, 2024.

The school was rated as outstanding in every area: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years provision.

Pupils told inspectors that it is an “amazing” school and parents and carers were “equally complimentary”.

Ofsted reported that the school has a “happy, community feel” which is underpinned by “strong and nurturing” working relationships.

The curriculum was found to be broad and balanced, ensuring that pupils know and remember more.

Behaviour expectations were found to be high as children are encouraged to be “polite and independent” from a young age.

Inspectors also found that pupils feel very safe at school because they know that the staff there look out for them and that the school community has a high level of trust.

Pupils talked to inspectors “animatedly” about everything the school offers, such as the winning sports teams and the “exciting” residential trips.

Teachers were found to know their pupils well, which lets them address any gaps in pupils' learning.

Staff at this school were reported to be knowledgeable about how to meet the needs of pupils with SEND and do this “highly effectively”.

A spokesperson for Streatham Wells Primary School said: “Described by Ofsted as a joyful and inspirational place, Streatham Wells Primary School is a wonderful one-form entry school in Lambeth.

“Streatham Wells achieved an Ofsted outstanding in all areas from their January visit this year.

“Moving from a previous ‘good’ grading, we pride ourselves on a curriculum that questions, inspires and promotes excellence.

“This is a marvellous achievement as in 2022/23 only four per cent of schools moved from a good to outstanding grading.

“We are inspired by the environment, both inside and out.

“Inside, an open plan hub of learning and focus, outdoors, a village school in the city, surrounded by the shade of beautiful gardens and trees.

“Our curriculum focuses on teaching children to think critically about the world around them leaving the school as happy, well-rounded individuals with a deep love of learning and care about the people and world around them.”

Headteacher Sarah Wordlaw is proud of the school, adding that its vision focuses on “growing hearts and minds” which is as much for the staff as well as the pupils.

She said: “We teach and support children holistically, developing academic excellence as well a deep focus on emotional literacy and being great citizens of the world."
