Thousands without water across south London after major pipe bursts - Metro.co.uk

Fights have broken out over bottled water after a burst pipe has left thousands of people across south London without working plumbing.

Thames Water has said they have had to close their distribution hub in Sainsbury’s car park in Lower Sydenham after ‘security incidents’ as desperate customers foughtfor their share.

Keiran said on X: ‘Went to the water cache, as expected it had run out due to certain individuals taking whole palettes and loading them into the car.

‘Some fist fights… there was water in the Sainos… I just assumed there wasn’t.’

Londoners react to the loss of iconic bus route that served millions for 88 years - Metro.co.uk

Londoners are mourning the end of an iconic bus route which took its last journey after 88 years in operation.

The 118 bus, which ran from Morden to Brixton, was axed by Transport for London (TfL) despite being in service since November 1936.

The bus was known among south Londoners for its internal blue lighting and made its last ever journey in the early hours of Satruday morning.

The historic route fell victim to a TfL reshuffle of bus services in south London aimed at cutting overlapping bus services to better meet passenger demand.

TfL plans to move Streatham pedestrian crossing just 50 yards labelled a 'sham' - Metro.co.uk

London councillors are up in arms over TfL’s plan to move a pedestrian crossing and install a new one around 50 yards away.

TfL revealed plans last month to relocate the junction in Streatham, south London, some yards further south across the A23, a busy dual carriageway with a central reservation.

However, local leaders have criticised the plan, saying the £650,000 could be better spent on something else.

It comes after the area between Woodbourne Avenue and Gracefield Gardens has become a hotspot for crashes between pedestrians and drivers.

Where a London bus takes two hours to travel three miles | UK News - Metro.co.uk

New data has shown where in London it takes the longest to get between bus stops and where it is quicker to walk than to get on a double-decker.

Buses are taking two hours to travel less than three miles due to congestion caused by a new low-traffic neighbourhood (LTN) in south London, it has been revealed.

The Streatham Wells LTN has caused traffic jams since it was first introduced in October 2023 as part of an 18-month trial.
