A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Lathaniel Burrell on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old man was arrested in Croydon this morning. He remains in custody, police said.

Lathaniel, from Stockwell, died at the scene after being shot in Paradise Road, near Stockwell tube station at around 3.20pm.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee said: “Our detectives are working hard to piece together the events of Tuesday afternoon and identify those responsible for killing Lathaniel.

Streatham put themselves back in the driving seat in their quest for a fifth NIHL 1 South title in a row over the weekend, triumphing in their crucial encounter with Slough Jets 4-2 on Saturday before making it a full six-point weekend with a 5-3 win at Swindon Wildcats.

The South Londoners went into the Jets fixture with one point separating the clubs. Streatham looked to their experienced players to deliver in this game and captain Ryan Watt as he opened the scoring at 4:05.

A 16-year-old boy has died after being shot in Clapham yesterday afternoon.

Cops were called at around 3.20 on March 4, to reports of a shooting in Paradise Road near Stockwell tube station.

Police attended the scene along with the London’s Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service crews.

The 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are working to identify the teenager and contact his next of kin. No arrests have been made.

Primary school children are being taught to recognise sexism in a bid to prevent violence against women and girls (VAWG).

Streatham Wells Primary School in Palace Road, Tulse Hill, tackles misogyny and VAWG through its curriculum and community work.

Headteacher Sarah Wordlaw leads the Lambeth forum for VAWG, connecting professionals who support women and children who are at risk.

Ms Wordlaw has curated a curriculum for the school which teaches the children about identity, expression, naming misogyny, online behaviours and developing positive masculinity.

This mothers day, an iconic Streatham boozer will invite the public to a mad-hatter fundraising event promising live music and entertainment.

The Crown & Sceptre, on the corner of Streatham Hill and the South Circular, is a landmark of South London, made even more famous by a 1978 Clash song.

Locally listed, and maintaining its original Truman’s red tiling, this Victorian pub will host an evening of live music, fundraising events and raffles on March 30, to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Streatham set the stage for a potentially title-race deciding encounter with Slough Jets on Saturday with a 12-0 win over Cardiff Fire on Saturday evening.

The RedHawks closed the gap to being one point behind Slough in the NIHL 1 South table. Danny Ingoldsby started the scoring early on three minutes, with help from Ziggy Beesley and a returning Tomasz Skokan.

Ben Scanlan in the Fire net weathered a storm of shots for the next six minutes before Ingoldsby added his second of the game after nine minutes.

Platform lifts are now open at Tooting station, giving wheelchair users and other passengers of restricted mobility, access for the first time.

The £5.4m investment to construct two new lifts at Tooting station began in spring 2023 and was completed by Network Rail in January. Following final testing, the lifts are now fully open.

The lifts provide step-free access from the main entrance of the station and down to platform level.

In addition, the project team installed new CCTV cameras to enhance the security of the station, as well as widening footways.

Streatham RedHawks secured a vital three points in their quest to unseat NIHL 1 South leaders Slough Jets with a 5-2 win over the visiting Romford Buccaneers on Sunday, writes Christopher Beal.

Buccaneers netminder Sonny Phillips and his defence withstood an early hammering in the opening period as the hosts created chance after chance.

But Luke Brittle broke their resistance on 19 minutes.

Romford responded at 22:16 with Nathan Williams equalising, Elliot Dervish quickly putting them in front.

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested for conspiracy to commit murder after a stabbing on Friday.

Cops were called to reports of a stabbing in Bramley Road, between Ladbrooke Grove and Notting Hill, at around 7.30pm.

Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended the scene and found a teenage boy suffering from stab injuries.

He was taken to hospital where his injuries were deemed not to be life-threatening.

Streatham RedHawks bounced back from a disappointing defeat on home ice the weekend before with a 7-1 win over visiting Swindon Wildcats 2 on Saturday, writes Chris Beal.

Coach Ben Paynter said he was looking for a response from the team following the third-period collapse against the Slough Jets and he got exactly that.

Streatham opened the scoring early on through JJ Pitchley and then Luke Brittle assisted Aiden Doughty.
