Streatham continued their undefeated home streak on Saturday, extending it to six matches this season, with a 9-2 win over Invicta Dynamos, writes Christopher Beal.

The South Londoners found a way back from two early one-goal deficits to be victorious.

Harvey Stead was given a two-minute penalty for cross checking after four minutes and Dynamos scored on the following powerplay through former Redhawk Tom Soar.

Streatham immediately applied offensive pressure and were rewarded on six minutes. Ethan Lane banked a puck in off the skate of Dynamos’ Dylan Worthy.

Streatham continued their successful start to the NIHL Division One South campaign with a 15-1 home win over Oxford City Stars on Sunday, writes Christopher Beal.

It took just 16 seconds for the rampant hosts to open the scoring as Luke Brittle netted the opener past Stars netminder Morgan Parsons.

Parsons withstood a barrage of Streatham chances for the next 10 minutes before Aidan Doughty doubled the lead.

Oxford held steady for seven minutes but then were stunned by conceding four goals in as many minutes which ensured Streatham ended the period 6-0 up.

Streatham completed a six-point weekend as they bounced back from defeat to Chelmsford Chieftains, writes Chris Beal.

The South Londoners produced a come-from-behind win over fellow title rivals Slough Jets on Saturday to win 3-2.

Streatham shut out the Solent Devils 3-0 on Sunday night.

Former RedHawks player Brandon Miles put Jets ahead in the second period from a five-on-three powerplay. Lewis English made it 2-0.

Streatham responded at 38:13 as Ryan Watts broke Jets goalie Matt Smital’s shutout.

Appeal to find man who kicked woman in the leg at railway station - South London News

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for witnesses after a man assaulted a woman at a railway station.

The incident took place on August 20, at around 6pm, when a woman walked into Abbey Wood railway station and was approached by a man who kicked her leg.

The woman’s leg was bruised as a result of the attack, which resulted in mobility issues. She is still receiving treatment for the injuries, BTP said.

Thousands of protesters took to the street on Saturday as three different demonstrations converged in central London.

Family and friends of Chris Kaba joined an annual event to remember those who have died in police custody, led by the United Families and Friends Campaign (UFFC) in Trafalgar Square.

During the march some people held signs which read “No justice, no peace” and “No more deaths in custody”.

Streatham RedHawks continued their winning start to the season with a 7-1 home victory over Romford Buccaneers on Saturday, writes Christopher Beal.

Ryan Watt scored the first of his two goals on the night to break the deadlock in the 10th minute and the South Londoners added to their haul early in the second period through Harvey Stead.

Stead’s defensive partner Brendan Baird added Streatham’s third on 24 minutes.

Rail passengers in South London are being warned again to plan ahead as Network Rail brings an upgraded signalling system online over seven days.

Upgrade work will mean that no trains will run on parts of the National Rail and London Overground networks for seven days starting on Saturday and finishing on Friday, November 1 (half-term week).

The upgrades taking place between Crystal Palace, Tulse Hill and Peckham Rye are part of a £400 million programme of investment in track and signalling upgrades in South London.

A man shot dead by a police officer was a “core member” of a notorious gang who was accused of shooting a rival in the legs in a Hackney nightclub just weeks before he died.

Sergeant Martyn Blake, 40, shot Chris Kaba through the windscreen of an Audi Q8 in Kirkstall Gardens, Streatham on September 5, 2022. Mr Kaba, a 24-year-old father-to-be, was unarmed when he was shot in the head.

Yesterday, Sgt Blake was acquitted of Kaba’s murder, and the verdict has reignited a fierce debate over how the Government deals with fatal shootings by police.

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) has launched a free smartphone app, to improve accessibility for blind and partially sighted passengers.

Starting today, in collaboration with Sight Loss Councils, GTR will offer free access to the Aira Explorer guidance app to all 236 of its Southern, Thameslink-managed stations and Great Northern stations.

Dave Smith, Sight Loss Council Engagement Manager for Thomas Pocklington Trust, said: “It’s great that GTR have made the decision to roll out Aira Explorer at all their stations.
