Angry residents opposed to a £650,000 plan to replace parking spaces with seating down their street have blocked access to council workers set to start on the controversial project.

Local businesses and residents on Amesbury Avenue in Streatham fear the package of proposed changes to their street will ruin local shops and make the area a magnet for antisocial behaviour.

A ‘controversial’ two-day country music festival will be held at Tooting Common this summer.

Enable Leisure and Culture has won a licence to hold Country in the Common, on Tooting Common, over one weekend later this year which would feature ‘country, roots, folk, blues and associated Americana music genres’.

Wandsworth council approved contractor Enable’s plans to hold the two-day event from 12pm-10.30pm on the Saturday and 12pm-10pm on the Sunday in Lido Field, a section of the park, with alcohol sales ending 30 minutes before closing.

A 43-year-old from Streatham, who is no stranger to the London Marathon, is urging runners to have fun during the iconic race.

Tristan Walker-Buckton, 43, from Streatham, will be hitting the streets of London for the 26.2 miles this Sunday to raise money for Independent Age.

Having run more than a dozen marathons in his life, this will be his third time raising money for the charity that supports older people living in financial hardship.

Streatham RedHawks sealed a place in the NIHL South 1 play off semi-finals with a 12-3 aggregate win over Swindon Wildcats 2 last weekend.

The South Londoners produced a 4-1 win on home ice on Saturday and finished the job the following evening with an 8-2 win in Wiltshire.

Streatham will face Chelmsford Chieftains next over two legs with the home one taking place on Sunday (6.45pm).
