FURIOUS homeowners have accused their council of using them as 'cash cows' after they were fined for parking on their own driveways.

Lambeth Council's "Kerbside strategy" has marked nearly 200 homes in Streatham Vale with "illegal crossovers" - where vehicles are accessing properties without approved dropped kerbs.

The south London council is demanding that residents pay up to £4,000 to make their driveways official by changing the kerbs.

HOMEBASE is set to close 13 stores this month it can be revealed.

The locations, which include branches in Romford, Broadstairs and Coventry, are due to close in January.

Some branches have already launched closing down sales in stores.

Employees at the 13 branches have been notified about the closures.

When the DIY chain entered administration in November it had 133 stores in the UK.

The brand was immediately sold to The Range and Wilko owner CDS, securing up to 1,600 jobs and the future of up to 70 branches, with 50 locations already agreed.

A FORMER Arsenal youth prospect has been charged over a street brawl involving three men in which a football agent’s jaw was broken in a pistol-whipping.

Andre Blackman, 34, is accused of causing grievous bodily harm.

FA-registered agent Tony Finnigan, 62, who has looked after England and Premier League stars, was rushed to hospital for surgery.

A source told The Sun: “He was in a great deal of pain and needed metal plates in his mouth but is now on the road to recovery.

HOMEBASE has put 74 stores up for sale just over a week after tumbling into administration.

The troubled DIY chain has set a deadline for the sites to be sold by next Friday.

If the stores, which are located across the UK and Ireland, aren't bought, they could be at risk of closure.

Homebase appointed consultancy firm Teneo as administrators last Wednesday after it was hit hard by an "incredibly challenging" time for the DIY sector.

The body of a man, 49, was found on Sunday after the blaze around 7pm at a house that is divided into bedsits.

A woman, 34, and man, 47, were arrested on Monday.

One neighbour near the scene in Streatham, South London, said: “There were just plumes of black smoke and fire engines, it felt like chaos.”

Cops have begun a probe, but are treating it as an isolated incident, and spent Monday collecting CCTV footage.

WETHERSPOONS is set to pull the shutters down on its "best" pub in weeks - but it's not all bad news.

Punters were saddened to hear their favourite boozer, The Holland Tringham, in Streatham, London, will be calling last orders on March 10.

However, the closure is only temporary, with pints set to be pulled again by April 30.

It is understood The Holland Tringham is closing to allow some refurbishments and renovations.
