Man in his 70s dies after collapsing on Streatham street

Man in his 70s ‘collapses and dies’ on street in south west London - Sutton & Croydon Guardian

Police were called at 9.50pm last night (Saturday) to reports of a man collapsed on Shrubbery Road in Streatham.

Officers attended and the man – believed to be in his 70s – was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family has been informed.

At this time, the death is being treated as unexpected and unexplained.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

Serving more than 15 million customers in London and the Thames Valley, the company manages the region's water supply, treatment, and sewage disposal.

Some postcodes in south west London have had water pressure issues or have not had any water today (January 18).

The postcodes affected are SW16 – Streatham, Norbury, Tulse Hill, Pollards Hill, Furzedown and Balham, and SW2 – Brixton.

The station is one of the latest to be improved, including step-free access to all its platforms.

The project, completed by Network Rail as part of the Access for All scheme, involved the addition of two lifts connecting the ticket office with the platforms, for passengers with mobility needs and travelling with luggage, pushchairs and bicycles.

Pc Paul Fisher, 46, made a “split-second error” when he lost control of his unmarked BMW X5 and ran in to the back of a taxi driver’s Toyota before hitting a Ford Fiesta and a wall.

The former Royal Marine, who reached speeds of more than 80mph, admitted he “let people down” but denied dangerous driving.

The police car which Fisher was driving did not have its blue lights on at the time because they had accidentally been switched off by one of the occupants, his trial at Southwark Crown Court heard.

The police car which Fisher was driving did not have its blue lights on at the time because they had accidentally been switched off by one of the occupants, his trial at Southwark Crown Court heard.

The vehicle, which did have its siren on, had been switched to “arrival mode” and only had flashing rear red lights displayed, the court was told.

Met Police officer charged with murder of Chris Kaba in Streatham

Met Police officer who shot Chris Kaba dead in Streatham charged with murder - Sutton & Croydon Guardian

Mr Kaba, 24, died on September 6, 2022, after he was struck by a single bullet fired by a firearms officer.

The officer, who has not been named, will appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (September 21).

Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) Special Crime Division, said: “Following a thorough review of the evidence provided by the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct), the CPS has authorised a charge of murder against a Metropolitan Police officer following the death of Chris Kaba.

Motorists in Streatham already facing the potential for a £12.50 a day charge if they have a non-compliant vehicle when ULEZ expands, will face fresh restrictions on Leigham Avenue, Culverhouse Gardens, Valley Road and Gleneldon Road under Lambeth Council’s plans for the Streatham Wells Low Traffic Neighbourhood [LTN].

The new rules, which apply to side streets in an area bounded by Leigham Court Road, Streatham Common North and Streatham High Road, aim to reduce traffic and pollution and allow people to cycle more safely.
