Michael Morfey, 81, known in the parkrun community as “Marvellous Mike”, was left nothing in his will from wife Karen Morfey when she died in 2021 after they had been together for 18 years. Ms Morfey, a retired teacher, had instead left her £600,000 house in south London to her two children, Alexander and Emma Davies, in equal shares, granting her husband the right to stay for a year after her death. Martyn Blake, a Scotland Yard armed officer, fired a single shot through the windscreen of Chris Kaba’s Audi Q8 killing him, when he tried to escape after being stopped by police in Streatham on the evening of 5 September 2022. While Kaba’s identity was not known at the time, the vehicle had been linked to two previous firearms incidents including a shooting outside a primary school the night before. As he travelled through the Camberwell area, his black Audi Q8 was spotted by a police firearms officer, who recognised it as a vehicle that had been flagged as suspicious. According to the police intelligence database, the car, which was not registered to Kaba, had been involved in a firearms incident the previous evening. The scheme at Streatham Wells has been suspended by Labour-run Lambeth council after it caused huge traffic congestion in the suburb.
