Or so it would seem. Over the past few days Londoners have been warned about the planned station closures at Christmas of Liverpool Street and Paddington, as well as told to avoid using Euston over the festive period. And now more significant travel disruption is on the way for part of the capital’s rail network – this time planned for Halloween. From Saturday October 26 to Friday November 1, work on upgrading signalling systems will impact routes right across south London. Three of your bus routes could be getting the chop from TfL. Transport for London has announced plans to make changes to routes between Elephant & Castle, Camberwell, Brixton, Clapham Park, Streatham and Morden. But it’s not too late to stop them, Londoners have until October 13 to give TfL their feedback online. What TfL bus routes are being removed? Routes 45, 59 and 118 are all facing changes. The old police station at 101 Streatham High Road has been vacant since 2015, but soon, it could be transformed into a luxury hotel. Everitt Road Properties has applied to Lambeth Council to turn the former station, built in 1912, into a 57-bed hotel and café. In a planning permission document, the property developer said the potential hotel was in an area that had been identified as being ‘suitable’ for more hotels. And while we might be a way off from achieving that milestone, we are slowly making some progress. Streatham station in south London now has step-free access to all platforms. We’ll take that as a win. Undergoing a £5 million makeover, the south London station now has two lifts connecting the ticket hall with the platforms. Passengers who use wheelchairs, have pushchairs, bicycles or luggage will now be able to make it to their trains with ease, without having to navigate stairs.
