Description

Labour has swept to victory across Lambeth, securing all constituencies including three new seats and a Lambeth by-election.

Dominic Armstrong, the party’s candidate for Streatham Common and Vale, finished in first place, picking up 2,796 votes.

The by-election, which took place on the same day as the general election, was called after former Labour councillor Henna Shah resigned.

Green Party candidate Duncan Eastoe was second with 1,354 votes and Conservative Party candidate Lachlan Rurlander was third with 918 votes.

Labour’s Florence Eshalomi has been re-elected as MP for Vauxhall and Camberwell Green with 21,528 votes.

Green Party candidate Catherine Dawkins finished second, with 6,415 votes. Chris French, the Liberal Democrat candidate, was third with 4,549 votes and Aarti Joshi, the Conservative Party candidate, finished fourth with 2,809 votes.

MP Eshalomi was Labour MP for the now abolished constituency of Vauxhall until Parliament was dissolved at the end of May.

The new seat covers the majority of the old Vauxhall constituency, as well as Newington and Camberwell Green.

In another new seat, Labour’s Bell Ribeiro-Addy was elected MP for Clapham and Brixton Hill after winning 24,166 votes.

Ben Curtis, the Liberal Democrat candidate, finished second with 6,161 votes and Green Party candidate Shâo-Lan Yuen was third with 5,768 votes.

MP Ribeiro-Addy was Labour MP for the now abolished constituency of Streatham until Parliament was dissolved at the end of May. She was first elected at the 2019 election, winning 54.8 per cent of the vote.

The new seat of Clapham and Brixton Hill covers Brixton Hill, most of Clapham, Stockwell and Tulse Hill.

In Streatham and Croydon North, Labour’s Steve Reed has been re-elected as MP with 23,242 votes.

Green Party candidate Scott Ainslie, a local councillor, finished second, with 7,629 votes. Anthony Boutall, the Conservative Party candidate, was third with 5,328 votes.

Mr Reed, 60, a former leader of Lambeth council, was Labour MP for the now abolished constituency of Croydon North from 2012 until the end of May. At the previous general election, in 2019, he won 65.6 per cent of the vote.

The new seat of Streatham and Croydon North is made up of Crystal Palace, Norbury and much of Streatham and Upper Norwood.
