Description

Alien Sex Fiend played at Camden Palace on February 13, 1990, as part of the venue’s Feet First indie nights. Posters advertising the show went up around the area in other parts of London, featuring the faces of lead singer Nicholas Wade (aka Nik Fiend) and Christine Wade (Mrs Fiend).

Peter Marshall saw those posters as he walked around Camden in north London (previously). Peter took photos wherever he walked, and thanks to him we see more posters stuck to walls throughout the city in 1990. We can journey back in time to when indie rock band Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine was performing at the Brixton Fridge, Londoner Mica Paris and Adamski both had new albums out, the latter riding high following the success of his smash hit Killer, and future boxing heavyweight world champion Lennox Lewis (London) was fighting Jorge Dascola (Argentina) at the Royal Albert Hall on May 9.

Also that year, Sinead O’Connor was sporting a platinum blonde wig on the cover of celebrity and entertainment magazine Sky (1987 – 2001), Indian actors Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi were headlining at Wembley Stadium and you could shop for fetish wear at She An Me in Hammersmith.

Broadwater Farm Estate, Tottenham, Haringey: posters show Winston Emmanuel Silcott, wrongfully convicted in 1967 as one of the Tottenham Three for the murder of PC Keith Blakelock during the Broadwater Farm riot in 1985. All three had their convictions after it was proved their confessions had be fabricated by the police. He was however jailed for the murder of nightclub bouncer Tony Smith.
