Police attended North Middlesex hospital in the early hours of December 24 after being told a man had been admitted with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The 26-year-old’s injuries were later assessed as not life-threatening.

Despite the victim not willing to support police action an investigation was launched.

Officers established that the victim had been injured outside a supermarket in Cedar Road, Tottenham.

CCTV images clearly captured Charles shooting the man after an altercation at around 5am, Scotland Yard said.

A manhunt was launched and Charles was caught as he tried to escape a friend’s home in Stanford Way, Streatham, January 8.

He was arrested and taken into custody.

A shell casing recovered at the scene assisted in linking Charles to the shooting.

With the offence caught on CCTV, it left him with no choice but to plead guilty.

He was charged and remanded on Tuesday, 9 January

Detective Constable Rhiain John, who led the investigation said: “Charles is a dangerous offender with links to gangs, which is believed to be the motivation behind this incident.

“I’m pleased to see that the sentence given today means he will spend a significant amount of time behind bars.”
