Streatham secured a four-point weekend as they followed up a 4-2 win over Solent Devils with a 14-1 home win over MK Thunder on Sunday, writes Christopher Beal.

It took just 18 seconds for Streatham to open the scoring against Thunder as Jared Lane scored with the first shot on net of the game.

The RedHawks were 6-0 up after the first period with Lane netting a second before Ben Paynter, Ryan Watt and JJ Pitchley (two) also got on the scoresheet.

Streatham changed their netminder in the second period with youngster Dylan Phillips swapped in for Danny Milton.

Beesley and Watt both added another two to their hauls with Watt and Paynter nudging the score to 11-0.

Streatham added three more in the closing 10 minutes. Beesley and Pitchley capped off their hat-tricks with Ben Ealey-Newman bagging the final goal.

Sam Waller, Lane, Paynter and Ben Ealey-Newman scored in the victory at Gosport.

Coach Paynter was pleased with back-to-back victories but not with the level of competition they faced Sunday. He said: “That wasn’t good for the league,. As a team we were very professional.

“It’s a game that gave us a chance to work on some systems, but realistically we want to be battling for every two points and we want to be in exciting games that are good for everyone involved.

“I want us to be a tight team that is sound defensively – our goals against shows that.”

Streatham, fresh off an 18-goal weekend, face Slough Jets on Saturday (5.30pm) in a home game that could have huge ramifications on the NIHL South 1 title picture.

Jets are one of two sides in striking distance of the South Londoners.
