The London Overground service between Watford Junction and London Euston was also disrupted, with delays of up to 20 minutes. This was due to a fault on a train at Watford High Street.

M1 crash causes severe delays for Luton Airport travellers

Motorists travelling from London to Luton Airport faced major disruption this morning following a serious multi-vehicle crash on the M1.

The collision, involving two lorries, a van, and three cars, happened around 9am on the northbound carriageway between junction 11 (Luton) and junction 11a (Houghton Regis).

Emergency services remain at the scene, and traffic officers are helping vehicles caught in the closure. National Highways said drivers trapped within the affected stretch will be turned around and diverted off the motorway at junction 11.

Queues are stretching back beyond junction 10 for Luton Airport, affecting journeys from London to the airport and causing knock-on delays for those driving north from the capital via the M1.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes if possible.

Minor delays on the Metropolitan line

Metropolitan line is now operating its service with minor delays instead of severe.

The minor delays are due to an earlier fire alert at Wembley Park.
