My housemate and I headed to the all-new location on Monday night and were amazed at the décor, service, and of course, the shrimp. The restaurant's layout is thoughtfully designed, with ample seating arrangements suitable for intimate dinners or lively gatherings with friends and family. As for the menu, Shrimp Shack boasts an impressive selection of starters, meat dishes, and seafood delicacies that cater to a variety of palates. For starters, we shared the firecracker chicken, firecracker shrimp, garlic bread and cheese, and the sweet and sour halloumi. Each starter is priced between £7-£10, a reasonable price for some incredible food – our joint favourite was the halloumi as the gooey fried cheese paired perfectly with the sweet and tangy chilli sauce. Originally inspired by the flavours of South Africa, Shrimp Shack’s main menu is stacked with options, and offers a Nando’s-like experience, where you pick your shrimp, sauce, sides, and heat level. For my housemates main, she enjoyed a traditional chicken breast dish for £14, which is paired with some chips and rice, and the ‘mild’ heat level. I wanted to take it up a notch and chose the ‘saucy shrimp shack’ which includes 8 shrimps with a delicious lemon butter sauce, stir fry veg, rice, and a ‘medium’ heat level – this is priced at an affordable £16. My dish was exquisite, as the succulent shrimp is marinated in the most gorgeous rich garlic butter sauce and grilled to perfection. The shrimp are tender and flavourful, with just the right amount of char from the grill. Served alongside a bed of seasoned rice, it's a dish that embodies simplicity and sophistication. In addition to its stellar food offerings, Shrimp Shack also offers friendly and attentive service, as demonstrated by our knowledgeable server for the evening, Sham, and the other staff members who helped us along the way with our food options. Shrimp Shack is home to a collection of drinks, including bottomless fizzy drinks, alcohol-free wine and beer, and mocktails for just £5.95. As someone who lives two minutes away from Shrimp Shack, I can confidently say it is a welcome addition to Streatham's culinary landscape. With its charming ambiance, great prices, mouth-watering dishes, and impeccable service, it's a seafood lover's paradise that promises to leave a lasting impression. Whether you're a long time resident or just passing through, be sure to pay a visit to this gem and experience the taste of the sea like never before. I can’t wait to return for more.
