A teen was found “seriously” injured at Streatham Common Playground shortly after 8pm on May 18.

Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended and the teen was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police confirmed today (May 21) that his condition is now stable.

One man was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident and taken into police custody.

He has since been bailed while further enquiries are carried out.

Detective Sergeant Matt Summerfield, who is leading the investigation, said: “We know this incident has caused significant concern in the community and we are working hard to identify anyone who may have been involved.

“This attack took place on a summer’s evening and we know there were other people in the area or close by.

“We have spoken to a number of these individuals but believe there are others who have information that could help our investigation.

“If you think you may have seen something or noticed anyone acting suspiciously, please contact us immediately.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days and officers will be happy to speak to anyone who has any questions.”

The full statement from Metropolitan Police says: “Detectives are appealing for information after a teenager was stabbed in Streatham Common Playground.

“Shortly after 20:00hrs on Saturday, 18 May, police were called by the London Ambulance Service to a man stabbed and seriously injured.

“He was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition but is now stable and recovering.

“One man was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. He has since been bailed while further enquiries are carried out.

“Anyone with information should call 101 with reference 6961/18May.”

A spokesperson London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 8.06pm on Saturday 18 May to reports of a stabbing incident at Streatham Common, SE16.

“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, paramedics in response cars, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a teenager at the scene before taking him to a London major trauma centre.”
