Road remains closed by police after serious Streatham crash as buses affected - Sutton & Croydon Guardian

Police have been pictured manning a cordon in place on the A23 Streatham Hill this evening (December 14).

It follows an earlier crash involving a bus and a cyclist at around 1.20pm.

Police were dispatched to the scene of the incident after being alerted to the crash and discovered the male cyclist injured.

He has since been taken to hospital where he remains fighting for his life.

The driver of the bus stopped at the scene.

The road closure will continue to impact a number of bus services and it is not yet clear when the road will reopen.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were alerted to the crash in Streatham Hill A23 at around 1.20pm today (December 14).

The cyclist, a male, was found injured at the scene and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the bus stopped at the scene and there have been no arrests.

Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.

Road closures remain in place in the road headed northbound.

TfL confirms bus route 118 from Morden to Brixton will be axed

Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that the 118 bus route, which runs from Morden to Brixton, will be withdrawn from February 2025.

The decision follows a public consultation held between September 2 and October 13, 2024, which proposed changes to bus routes 45, 59, and 118.

TfL consultation report states: “The proposals aimed to simplify the bus network between Streatham, Brixton and Camberwell”.

During the consultation, TfL asked: "How would the proposed changes to routes 45, 59, and 118 impact you?”

The work will affect trains from Today (December 9) through to the end of the week (December 13).

We have compiled all the details on these works so that you can plan your journey this week.

Monday to Friday (December 9 to December 13)

Engineering work is taking place overnight between Purley and Caterham and Tattenham Corner, closing some lines.

From approximately 11.45pm until the end of service on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, buses will replace trains between East Croydon, Purley, Caterham, and Tattenham Corner.

Saturday and Sunday (December 7 and December 8):

Engineering work is taking place between Littlehampton and Barnham, Bognor Regis, and Chichester, closing all lines.

No Southern trains will run between Portsmouth Harbour and Southampton Central.

Trains will run between London stations and Brighton and Littlehampton and also between Chichester and Portsmouth Harbour.

Amy, who was reported missing today (December 4), was last seen wearing black joggers and black puffer jacket.

Officers say they are concerned for her.

Trains between Purley and Three Bridges or Haywards Heath will run on a different schedule from 11pm on Monday to Thursday evenings until 5.30am on Tuesday to Friday mornings.

The work will affect trains from Monday (November 25) and Friday (November 29).

Monday to Friday (November 25 to November 29):

Petersfield

Due to maintenance work in the Petersfield area, some late evening services will be cancelled or replaced by buses for all or part of their journey

A statement on the South Western Railway website says: “Late evening and early morning services may need to be altered for emergency repairs or planned work.

“We are sorry that bulky luggage, cycles and prams cannot be carried on the replacement bus services.
