Second by-election set for Streatham Common and Vale as another Lambeth Labour Councillor resigns in the ward - BrixtonBuzz

You’ve got to feel for the residents of Streatham Common and Vale ward.

A by-election?

Not another one, etc…

But yep, less than a month after the good residents of the ward rushed to find a replacement for ex-Cllr Tom Rutland whilst he’s on a South Coast jolly, another Lambeth Labour Councillor has resigned their seat.

This time it’s the turn of Cllr Henna Shah [right].

The by-election for Streatham Common and Vale ward will take place on 4th July – the same day as the General Election.

You can find a full list of the candidates over here.

Another Lambeth Labour Councillor has ambitions outside of the borough having been selected as the Labour candidate for St Neots and Mid-Cambridgeshire at the next General Election.

Cllr Marianna Masters, one of the current two Labour Councillors for Streatham Wells, is looking towards the Tory seat to fulfil her political careerist ambitions.

The neighbouring Streatham Common and Vale ward recently saw a similar situation. Cllr Tom Rutland fancied his chances of being the next MP for East Worthing and Shoreham.

Landlords feel the heat as Lambeth plans to introduce a compulsory licensing scheme for the private sector - BrixtonBuzz

Lambeth Council is set to introduce a compulsory licensing scheme for private landlords across the borough.

Four wards are being trialed as part of this scheme: Knights Hill, Streatham Common & Vale, Streatham Hill East and Streatham St Leonards will be the first wards to see the roll out of the scheme.

Private landlords will need to pay the Council £923 for a five year licence. This is broken down as £650 for admin, and £273 for any possible enforcement.

As a comparison, Southwark Council currently charges £900, Greenwich £858 and Waltham Forest £700.

What exactly is a Music Trail, you ask? Here’s how it works: We’re hiding musicians in 9 different locations across Brockwell Park for you to seek out.

Grab a map from us at Herne Hill Gate and kickstart your adventure.

When you find our musicians, jot down their location and the instruments they’re playing. Find all 9, and you could be in for a prize!
