Streatham opticians have celebrated three decades of bringing high-quality care to the community. To mark the birthday, the Specsavers Streatham store welcomed company co-founder Dame Mary Perkins and the Mayor of Lambeth, Cllr John-Paul Ennis, to enjoy the special celebrations.

Retail director Shivani Patel, who has been a partner in the business for over 13 years, says: "We’re so thrilled to be sharing this special anniversary and store re-launch with Dame Mary, the Mayor of Lambeth and our guests and colleagues today.

"The team have worked very hard to establish our reputation for delivering outstanding customer care and clinical expertise during the last 30 years, and Sachin and I are very proud of their achievements. We’re looking forward to providing care across the community for many more years to come."

During the course of the day, customers visiting the store also joined in the celebrations and were given special anniversary discount vouchers.

As part of the community healthcare offering, Specsavers Streatham provides support for minor eye conditions.

Sachin Patel, optometrist director, comments: "We’ve seen a lot of change in the high street since opening in 1995, plus delivery of optical and audiology services have changed too, as it is now more community-based, with Specsavers providing support to the NHS.

"This has helped to ease pressure on the NHS, as local GPs refer their patients to us for sight or hearing issues such as red eye, flashes and floaters, and ear wax removal. So, we’re delighted to be a first port of call for patient referrals with minor eye conditions."

Following the recent £150,000 store facelift, customers can access the very latest state-of-the-art pre-room testing diagnostic equipment, including a visual fields analyser and OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) examination. The OCT, which is hospital grade advanced diagnostic, eye-scanning equipment, that helps detect serious eye conditions, including glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, up to four years earlier than traditional methods.

The added benefit of the scan is that each customer’s OCT images can be stored, with any changes being observed over time – a real benefit to the monitoring of someone’s overall eye health.

In addition, there are four test rooms, dedicated diagnostic testing areas and specific contact lens stations offering enhanced facilities to customers. The store operates 28 sight clinics a week, with audiology clinics available on Sunday. Store opening times are Monday to Sunday, 9am to 6pm.
