Herne Hill Welcomes Refugees

Local volunteers are appealing to local landlords to help support a family fleeing Afghanistan to settle in the Streatham and Herne Hill area as part of their  ‘Communities for Afghans’ programme. Herne Hill Welcomes Refugees is a partnership between the government and the charity Sponsor Refugees and are aiming to create a community-led pathway to help settle families escaping conflict to be supported settling into the community .

Well Being Day at Brixton Windmill

The Lambeth and Southwark Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society have announced a free all day event at the Brixton Windmill Center on Saturday, 7 September 2024. This free event is open to anyone affected by MS, including carers, friends and family members of those with a multiple sclerosis diagnosis. 

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that can affect the brain and spinal cord, causing a wide range of potential symptoms, including problems with vision, arm or leg movement, sensation or balance.

St. John’s House nominated for Best Healthy Homes award

St. John's House

Due to open later this year, St. John’s House, a newly redeveloped service run by Sanctuary Supported Living, has been shortlisted n the ‘Best Healthy Homes Development’ category for the 2024 Inside Housing Development Awards. The new service promises to provide a fully accessible home for residents, many of whom are dependent wheelchair users. The hope is that this will  enable them to live as independently as possible.

Penny Farthing returned

Robert Torto has successfully tracked down his beloved Penny Farthing, days after it was taken from out side his favourite barbers on Streatham Hill. 

Local shopkeepers were very sympathetic to Robert's cause and were able to assist him put him in touch with the thief. 

When Robert eventually tracked down the thief it turned out the bike had already been sold on. The thief however was cooperative and agreed to jump on a cargo bike with Robert to help him track it down. 

Appeal for return of Penny Farthing

Man captured Pushing Penny Farthing down Streatham High Road

A local resident has appealed for the return of his Penny Farthing last seen being pushed down Streatham High Road. Robert Torto had his beloved Trott & Sons Penny-Farthing stolen on Streatham Hill.

“There will be lots of CCTV footage capturing my stolen Penny Farthing. I have reached out to local shops in Streatham for help in gathering evidence. It’s very distinctive given it has a 56 inch wheel."

"I have really enjoyed riding this mechanical marvel around and the best bit was all the smiles from Londoners as I rode by.”
